The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced today (30th) a new list of unqualified food products at the border, with a total of 10 unqualified items. In terms of fruits and vegetables, "fresh mandarin oranges" exported from Japan were found to contain excessive pesticides; "fresh spinach" exported from the United States was found to contain excessive heavy metals. A total of 762 kilograms of both products were destroyed.

The FDA announced that 10 products were unqualified, including blended beans and bay leaves imported from Indonesia, turmeric powder from Spain, lychee concentrate from Thailand, mint from China, thyme from Egypt, fresh mandarin oranges from Japan, and fresh spinach from the United States. They were found to contain unqualified sweeteners, bleaching agents, heavy metals or pesticides.

Among them, fresh satsuma mandarins exported from Japan's JA Oita Kitsuki Citrus Fruit Selection Farm and imported by Mifeng Fresh Produce Co., Ltd. were found to contain 0.01 ppm of the pesticide tauschone and 0.03 ppm of cypermethrin. According to the "Tolerable Pesticide Residue Standard," tauschone and cypermethrin are not detectable in satsuma mandarins and should be below the quantitative limit of 0.01 ppm. This does not comply with Article 15, Paragraph 1, Item 5 of the Food Safety and Sanitation Management Act. A total of 500 kilograms of these mandarins were returned or destroyed as required.

In addition, "FRESH ORGANIC SPINACH" exported by the US manufacturer "BRIDGEPOINT TRADING INC" and imported by "Li Yu Enterprise Co., Ltd." was found to contain 0.3 mg/kg of cadmium. According to the "Sanitary Standards for Contaminants and Toxins in Food", the cadmium limit for leafy vegetables is 0.2 mg/kg, which does not comply with Article 17 of the Food Safety and Sanitation Management Act. A total of 262 kilograms were returned or destroyed in accordance with regulations.
